Biography

Dean McManus is a Clinical Psychologist, who has worked across private, corporate and government sectors for over 25 years as an educator, resilience coach, counsellor and psychologist with a keen interest in mental health promotion, positive psychology and social justice.

Dean has a Master of Psychology (Clinical) from the University of New England and a Bachelor of Social Science (Psych) (Honours) from Charles Sturt University.

Dean treats a wide range of psychological issues. He has specific expertise in treating anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders related to life transitions, grief, stress and burnout, LGBTQIA+ issues around gender and sexuality, relationships and trauma. Additionally, adult and child autism/ADHD/personality/cognitive testing and psychological assessment and reports are available.

Dean brings a straight forward and direct psychotherapeutic approach that is trauma-informed, with extensive training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and other evidence-based approaches including mindfulness, strength-based therapy, interpersonal and psychodynamic psychotherapy and motivational interviewing.

With a background in music education, Dean has developed good, professional insights into how the work of mindfulness mirrors the creative process – it takes commitment, practice and digging deep, but results in the joyful experience of accomplishment that emanates outward and connects us to something bigger than ourselves.

It is hard work, that doesn’t mean it can’t be done without a sense of discovery and humour. You are in safe hands.
